Joel Parkinson gets set for Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast

World No.2 Joel Parkinson (Coolangatta, Aus) believes the ASP men’s World Tour is poised for one of its most exciting years, which begins with the Quiksilver Pro presented by Land Rover on the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Parkinson, a local favorite at Snapper Rocks, is embarking on his 12th season on the World Tour and said the depth this year is extraordinary.

Parkinson added that 11-time world champion Kelly Slater (USA) was something else all together.

Parkinson believes a more relaxed approach was the key to his 2011 end-of-year success but admits to some frustration with having finished runner-up four times now. Parkinson said the worst one to deal with was behind 2009 world champion Mick Fanning (Tweed Heads, NSW, Aus).

Despite a pack of eager young rookies attempting to chase him down, Parkinson is more than ready for the Quiksilver Pro. With a new quiver from JS Industries and more than talent than most, Parkinson will again be one to watch this year.
