The mystery of this years Rip Curl Search has been uncovered with the announcement that Puerto Rico wil host the ASP World Tour event between October 30 and November 10.
The past 5 years have seen the event uncover magical spots in Reunion, Mexico, Chile, Bali & Portugal.
Although there were mixed opinions about the “Somewhere in Mexico” search uncovering Barra De La Cruz to greater surfing community, the Rip Curl Search event is one of the favourites among the ASP World Tour surfers.
Taylor Knox, runner up in the 2006 Rip Curl Pro said, “It’s a great place to have the Search event, because we’re going to have plenty of options and waves to choose from,”. He added, “Rip Curl has been really good at picking places that have more than one wave option and I think it’s great to do something new by heading to the Caribbean.”
After the event in the cold water of Peniche in Portugal it’s not just the mens tour that are excited about the prospect of surfing the warm waters of the Caribean.
“The Caribbean has always been a dream holiday destination for me and now it’s clear they’ve got incredible waves there,” said Australia’s Steph Gilmore, reigning three-time word champion. “Clear water, sunshine, bikinis, palm trees, beautiful beaches – it’s exactly where the Rip Curl Pro Search should be!”
