With another lay day at Teahupoo and a delay to the start of Round 4 we though we would take a closer look at who will be heading to Trestles and who would be off to the next WQS event.
This is the first time that the Top 44 has been cut during the middle of the ASP World Tour, sending 12 surfers down to fight it out and leaving the remaining 32 to battle for the World Title on the Dream Tour.
It could be said that anyone outside of the Top 32 simply would not be able to contend with the Top Surfers for the grand prize, but what about those that are new on the tour and are only finding their feet after 5 rounds only to be sent crashing back to where they rose from the year before?
This year we’ve seen some big names get dropped from the World Tour
- Drew Courtney (AUS), 31
- Neco Padaratz (BRA), 34
- Tanner Gudauskas (USA), 22
- Mick Campbell (AUS), 34
- Kieren Perrow (AUS), 33
- Tom Whitaker (AUS), 30
- Kekoa Bacalso (HAW), 25
- Blake Thornton (AUS), 25
- Dean Morrison (AUS), 29
- Jay Thompson (AUS), 28
- Nate Yeomans (USA), 29
- Ben Dunn (AUS), 24
- Marco Polo (BRA), 29
Fortunately Joel Parkinson will remain on the tour once he has recovered from his ankle injury earlier in the year.
In case of further injuries this year, the waiting list to get back on the tour is started with Tom Whitaker (AUS), 30, finished No. 33 and then Dean Morrison (AUS), 29, finished No. 34 on ASP World Tour……. and so on.
