30,000 – an African Surf Film

A few months ago we did an article on Thirty Thousand, a surf film being shot around the African Continent, and now brothers Richard and Andrew James have returned to Australia to put the final touches on the filming for a middle of 2011 release.

We talked to Richard a few weeks ago and these were his initial comments about the trip.

“It was a long trip, we were away for almost all of 2010. Now we’re just working on editing, getting hold of music and also filming a little in Australia for the first section of the film. We’re expecting to release it sometime in the middle of this year. The website has the new trailer for the film as well as a few photos from the trip and a bit more information.”

“The film was made by myself and my brother Andrew – we did just about all the filming & surfing ourselves. We surf a whole bunch of different boards so there’s a combination of longboarding and shortboarding as well as fishes and stuff like that. It was a pretty interesting trip, especially dealing with border crossings and corrupt police, the worst roads you can possibly imagine, getting all our wetsuits stolen (and the camera tripod!), sitting through month-long flat spells and so on.”

Keep an eye out for our upcoming interview with the brothers where we take a closer look at their trip, the equipment they used for surf filming and some extraordinary tales of adventure. We will also be keeping you posted on release dates as well as any special screenings coming up.
