Joel Parkinson Injury at Snapper Rocks

Australia’s Joel Parkinson has suffered a severe foot injury a week before the Billabong Pro at J-Bay is set to begin.

This means that Parko will not be able to defend his title as reigning J-Bay champion, and is in danger of slipping out of World Champion contention from his current eighth ranking in the world.

Joel was surfing at Snapper Rocks in Australia at the time and was injured after falling while tucked inside a heaving barrel.

Australia’s Surfing Life website reported, “He tucked into a super-dredgy one and just disappeared inside, then showed up bobbing around in the whitewash. He was definitely in a lot of pain,” “There were no rocks where he went down so he must have gotten mixed up with his board.”

Surfing Life reported that Parkinson “was cut down to the bone around his ankle and calf area. He definitely wasn’t walking.”

Parko later Tweeted about the wound and even included the above photo that revealed his nearly-severed heel. “Don’t look at this photo if you don’t like blood!” he warned his 11,563 followers. In an earlier Tweet the surfer acknowledged, “Yes I cut my heel off.”

So if you have Joel in your fantasy surfing league now is the time to swap that around and find someone else that might earn you some points.

It’s a shame that after such a long wait between events that Joel has injured himself so close to the beginning of the J-Bay stop, especially with Joels past form at the South African spot.
