3 Time World Surf Champion Andy Irons has died

The surfing community is in shock today with the news that three time ASP World Champion died en-route from Puerto Rico back home to Kauai due to complications with dengue fever.

Andy was a beloved husband to Lyndie Dupuis, and this death is made even more tragic with the birth of their first child due in a month.

Earlier this week Andy Irons withdrew from the Rip Curl Search Puerto Rico earlier this week and had reportedly been battling with Dengue Fever.

Irons career began on the ASP World Tour in 1998 and became the unofficial next Kelly Slater. During Irons time on the tour he went on to collect 20 elite tour victories, four Triple Crown of Surfing Titles, three consecutive ASP World Titles and change the sport forever with his unparalleled ability and comprehensive approach to surfing.

I wish to offer my deepest condolences to the Lyndie and the rest of the Irons family at this time.

Competition at the Rip Curl Pro Search in Puerto Rico will be postponed today out of respect for the death of 3X ASP World Champion Andy Irons. Competition will resume following further consultation with ASP and Surfers.
